波旁除了圓身豆外，還有尖身豆。一八一○年，波旁島的<a href="http://www.haokafei.com/" style="color: rgb(121, 81, 48); text-decoration: none; cursor: pointer;" target="_blank" title="咖啡">咖啡</a>農勒羅伊發現，莊園有些<a href="http://www.coffee.cn/" style="color: rgb(121, 81, 48); text-decoration: none; cursor: pointer;" target="_blank" title="咖啡">咖啡</a>樹變得較矮小，而且結出的<a href="http://club.coffee.cn/bbs/bbs_list_262151.htm" style="color: rgb(121, 81, 48); text-decoration: none; cursor: pointer;" target="_blank" title="咖啡豆">咖啡豆</a>是尖身狀，與波旁圓身豆明顯有別。經植物學家確認爲波旁變種，即俗稱之“波旁尖身豆”（BourbonPointLl），成爲傳說中“喝多了亦好眠”的美味<a href="http://www.haokafei.com/" style="color: rgb(121, 81, 48); text-decoration: none; cursor: pointer;" target="_blank" title="咖啡">咖啡</a>，據說法國大作家巴爾扎克最愛此豆。直到二十世紀科學家才發現，波旁尖身豆的<a href="http://www.coffee.cn/" style="color: rgb(121, 81, 48); text-decoration: none; cursor: pointer;" target="_blank" title="咖啡">咖啡</a>含量只有一般阿拉比卡的一半，但到底是環境因素造成波旁圓身突變成低咖啡因的波旁尖身，或是圓身波旁與該島原生的褐果低因咖啡樹雜交所致，至今仍無定論。</p>

不過，變種波旁體質弱易染病，開花結果更少，因此不受農民歡迎雨遭到棄種，幾乎絕跡，直到一九九九至二⊙⊙七年在法國和日本的努力下才覆育成功，成爲當今最貴的咖啡（這段覆育傳奇，詳見本書第四章）。小小的波旁島，在十八到十九世紀搶種咖啡樹熱潮中，出現了三個阿拉比卡品種，即原生的褐果咖啡、波旁圓身和波旁變種尖身，其中的褐果咖啡和波旁尖身爲天然的低咖啡因，彌足珍貴，但這兩種罕見的低因咖啡並未移植到他國，僅見於波旁島。移植到中南美和東非的波旁咖啡，是波旁圓身而不是變種波旁尖身。<br />
