此時的中南美洲和亞洲仍無咖啡樹，歐洲列強看好咖啡栽培業的龐大商機，開始介入，分食咖啡大餅。列強靠着海外廣大殖民地與廉價黑奴的優勢，很快打破奧斯曼帝國壟斷咖啡產銷的局面，甚至蠶食摩卡咖啡在阿拉伯的市場。可以這麼說，一七二○年以後，全球咖啡栽培業開始從也門轉向亞洲和中南美的列強殖民地，爪哇與巴西咖啡強勢崛起，摩卡應聲隕落，重要性大不如前，成了最大的輸家。</p>
